Module #1: Welcome to Blogger and the course!

1. Introduce yourself to everyone in the class (electronically). In addition, please make a comment about one career that you could pursue from taking courses and possibly a degree in Physical Geography.

2. List and describe your expectations for this class as a whole. List three activities (sports, extra curriculars etc) that you enjoy outside of school time.

Each blog posting should be between 50 - 100 words in total.

  1. Hello, my name is Ellis Perry. Geography can lead to many different careers, one of the ones I looked at was an urban planner. People in this field of work are the ones who do the planning on what to do with certain sections of land within the city. They are the ones who control the zoning and new developments planned to be made in a city. My expectations for this class is to learn more about the physical systems of the earth and why they work the way they do. In my spare time I like to read articles about physics and science as well as play video games.

  2. 1. My name is Sam Roncato. I am in grade 12 and am planning to come back for 12+. When looking forward at a career, i am imagining myself as a forest ranger in a big forested park. While fighting crime isn't bad, I enjoy to be outside in the fresh air, away from big cities and their pollution in the embraces of the wilderness.

    2. During this class, I expect to learn about about the forms of nature that change the landscape, prepare me for future geography course, and give me insight on the environment while I defend Gotham from villainous scum.

When it comes to interests, my interests include playing video games, reading fantasy stories, and just surfing the internet for funny stories, pictures and videos.

  3. 1. My name is Laura Power. A career that I want to pursue is in Meteorology. From taking this course, it will hopefully show me if that's really the path that I want to take. The degree I want is a bachelors of science in environmental sciences at Carleton.
    2. My expectations for this class as a whole are to learn a lot about physical geography and to have a better understanding of what kind of career I will eventually hopefully be going into. Some activities that I enjoy outside of school time are swimming and assisting teaching swimming lessons, singing, and probably just hanging out with friends.

  5. Hi, my name is Sophie. I'm into social media, like music, and am a horseback rider.

My expectations for this class are to be able to walk away with more knowledge in natural disasters than simply what you learn from the news, and to be able to understand more about physical geography in general.

A career you could pursue from courses in geography could be an urban planner for cities. It's a natural link to physical geography. You would work on zoning, developments, the ratio of green space to cement, and entire new sections of urban area. You would also work with individual officials and property owners.

  6. My name is Salvatore Alexander Waszczylo, I have considered a possible backup career by working as a environmental biologist for Stats Canada. This includes taking samples from various ecosystems around Ontario and determining whether the ecosystem is properly functioning. My expectations for "Forces Of Nature" would be to have a deeper understanding of these natural phenomenons. My three activities outside of school would be motocross racing, as well as playing on a paintball team and practicing guitar.

  7. Hello, my name is Maggie McRae. There are many different career pathways that you could take from Geography. One of those would be to become a climatologist. Climatologists study weather patterns and what processes cause them. Unlike meteorologists, forecast weather changes over the span of years instead of days. My expectations for this class are to further my understanding of geography. I expect to expand my knowledge in several units and in Geography in general. Outside of school I like to: dance, read, and be outdoors.

  8. Hi, my name is Natasha. One of the many career paths that geography can lead to is cartography. A cartographer makes the maps that are used frequently by atlas publishers, government agencies, news media, as well as many others, and are therefore very important. From this course, I want to gain insight into how the earth processes work, why they happen, and how to prepare for them. In my spare time, I read, spend time with my sister and friends, and watch movies.

  10. Hey there, my name is Dylan Diebolt and one of the careers I found interesting involving geography is a geophysicist. A geophysicist studies the earth in specifically hard to reach places such as deep within the earth's crust using non invasive methods such as electrical and magnetic signals.

From this course I expect to learn all about natural processes of the earth and why they occur. My hobbies include things like biking, watching tv and swimming.

  11. Hello, my name Erika Matsuyama. Studying geography can lead many different career pathways. One of careers that I could pursue from taking this course is a soil scientist. Soil scientists gather, interpret and evaluate information about the chemistry, biology and physics of soils to inform and influence issues such as agricultural production, environmental quality, human health, and climate change. My expectations for this class is to be able to have a deeper understanding of physical mechanism of natural disaster. In my free time I enjoy skiing, listening to music and watching tennis game.

  13. Hey, my names Anna Pypker and a career option I came across is urban planning. It's interesting because it ties the geography of the land to the layout of cities and towns. By the end of this course I hope to have a solid understanding of the natural processes and disasters that occur and how they effect the earth. 16. Hello, my name is Summer, and a career I thought was interesting and involved geography was aviation, so being a pilot. Knowing the physical geography helps you read the area and be able to work within it, as well as see the weather patterns.
My expectations for this class are to learn about how natural disasters occur and why they happen as well as where they happen. I would like to have this knowledge for two main reasons; firstly because I think it’s very interesting topics, and secondly because I would like to try to avoid being near natural disasters so this information would surely help that cause. Three things I enjoy outside of school are; dancing, spending time with my family and friends, and listening to music.
